Outlook on the desktop crashes with multiple instances defined
First of all I would like to say that this is briliant programand I like it a lot.
Anyway, I'm using the latest version 1.5.2.0 with MS Outlook 2003 SP2. I installed MS.NET 3.5 as required. For the first time it starts fine and I can define as many instances as I want. As soon as I change the type of the second instance to be either tasks or notes and I intentionally exit Outlook on the desktop, I'm no able to start it anymore. It starts displaying first windows which is calendar window and then is opens a small windows with the message:
"Outlook on the Desktop has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
Since than I'm not able to start it up at all, not even reboot helps. If I re-install it, I go in the same circle. Firstly it works fine, as soon I close it and try to restarted it keeps failing. However I'm testing now two instances of calendar (monthly view and daily view) and those work fine.
I would love to get this working, so I appreciate any help. If necessary I can run debugger on my PC to pin point the problem.
Suggestions, tips?

I Have run into a simular problem: If I define multiple instances and change one of them to my Inbox it will crash on next launch just as robsonr described (though if the multiple instances are all calendar it seems to work just fine). Im running Win XP Pro SP3,Ooutlook 2003 SP3 and .NET 3.5 SP1 Has anyone else run into this problem? Wonderful program otherwise.

I have the same problem. I define one instance for monthly view and another instance for task view. It keeps crashing after I exit the problem and relanuch it.

I am having exactly the same problem. Outlook 2003 SP3, Windows XP SP3, OOTD 1.5.2.
I have .NET 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 installed.
I have determined that it does not have to do with multiple view instances, but with non-calendar views. I can add multiple views of the calendar and everything works fine. If I try to use an Inbox or a Contacts view, I get the standard crash dialog.
I went to OutlookDesktop.exe.config and changed logging to DEBUG and tried to start OOTD with a Calendar and an Inbox view. Here is the output:
If there is any more information I can provide, let me know. Things were working fine with v1.4.3 and then this issue began when I updated to 1.5.2.

If you do run into this issue, you can drop your non-calendar views by going to the registry and deleting them instead of uninstalling OOTD. That way you can at least get OOTD to load without crashing.
CURRENT_USER/Software/SMR Computer Services/Outlook On The Desktop/<Instance Name>
I downloaded and installed 1.5.0 and had the same problem. I downloaded and installed 1.4.5 and it seems to work now.

I too would like to say this is an excellant program, very useful.
Unfortunately I am also having the same problem, exactly the same as described by robsonr. I am trying to create an extra instance for tasks but when I restart the app it crashes.
Has anyone had the same problem and managed to get it fixed?
Cheers,
Andy

I'm having the same problem. I suspect the program has not kept up with the upgrades by Microsoft. I'm also using Office SP-3 and I can install it and in the first instance it works fantastic, but soon it stops when I either reboot the next day.

This worked for me.
Rename HKCR\Software\SMR Computer Services\Outlook On The Desktop\Default Instance
to something like
HKCR\Software\SMR Computer Services\Outlook On The Desktop\Default Instance2
Restarted the app, and I could add extra instances without any probs.
