The best interface to your Outlook calendar.

OotD stops responding after opening one item from outlook.

I'm running Windows XP, Outlook 2007, OotD 1.5.2.0. I have multiple displays and multiple instances open. When I double click any item, it opens the window from Outlook. When I close it, OotD is still on the desktop, but it is completely unresponsive. I can hide it and re-show it, but it is still unresponsive. I must exit and restart to get it to work.

I also have this problem. I have 3 Screens, Vista 32 Bit and Ootd 1.5.2.0

I have same problem.  Using 1 screen, Vista Pro 32 Bit, Ootd 1.5.2.0 and Outlook 2007.  It seems after entering one item to calendar, Outlook crashes /closes so Ootd become unresponsive.  Restarting Ootd will also restart Outlook, and so Ootd becomes responsive again until next update to the calendar.  Only option is to keep Outlook open, which defeats the purpose of having Ootd.  Help urgently needed.

BUT Well done anyway on an otherwise really useful app!

Hello I have got the same Problem! :(

Windows XP Media Centre, 1 screen, Outlook 2007, OoTD 1.5.2.0, one instance, one display...

...and having the same problem. Whenever I "close" outlook (eg. by opening a new appointment and then closing that window), changes will be saved, but OotD stops responding.
If I try to change anything from the tray icon, a Microsoft .NET Framework "Unhandled exception" error message will come up:

"RPC server is not available. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800706BA)."

Anyway, hope you can fix it soon; it's a great app!

Do you have Service Pack 2 (Office 2007) installed? Removing it solved this problem for me.

It's your choice whether you can live without SP2 but it did solve the problem.

You can't actually remove 2007 SP2 with Add/Delete in the Control Panel so it means a reinstallation of Office 2007. I'd suggest using something like Revo to do the uninstall as it will perform a 'deeper clean'. The program's here and it's free:

http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html

Once Office is reinstalled you can run Microsoft Update manually for all security patches - just untick Office 2007 SP2.

I've had the same problem.  I think it does have to do with Office 2007 Service Pack 2.  Before I installed that, OotD worked fine.  I could open outlook, change something, close it, and it would be updated in OotD.  But after sp2 was installed, this started happening.  Any chance they might get an update out to fix this?

Dear Mike,

I found the solution to this issue. It's a little bit tricky.

It might be couple lines modification to the code.

Send me an email, if you are interested in.

Sincerely yours,

David

The last post is now almost a month old and the problem is still not fixed. Did anybody find a real solution?

matthewjwtaylor (not verified) says:

I have used OoTD for months, and just uninstalled it because I couldn't deal with this problem anymore.  I'll reinstall when someone decides to fix it.

I have had the same problem that is caused by SP2, but you donot have to reinstall outlook to remove SP2 it can be deleted. refer- http://blogs.technet.com/odsupport/archive/2009/05/08/how-to-uninstall-o...

sandyke (not verified) says:

esky,.... I did successfully remove sp2 using the provided link.  It did not, however fix the problem with OOTD.  I really hope there is a solution soon.....  I really miss OOTD.

I have this problem too, on Windows 7 Home Premium, Outlook 2007, OotD 1.5.2.0. Dual monitor set-up, expanded desktop.

I really like this application, and I recently switched to it from my old Active Desktop Calendar due to issues syncing that program with Outlook effectively.

Still sticking with OotD, but this issue is really impairing its functionality.

Any news on a resolution yet?

mike says:

I finally reproduced it on my machine, however I haven't been able to fix it yet.  Outlook on the desktop does not freeze, but rather the Outlook View Control itself freezes, it's quite strange.  As soon as I find a solution (if it's even within my control), i'll post a new version.  I'm not sure if a recent Office update caused this problem because I've never seen it before recently.

I think I've found a workaround for this issues.  At least, it does the trick on my machine.  If you're experiencing the problem, go into you display properties and make your second monitor a clone of the first one.  Apply the changes.  Try opening an an email or appt in OotD, it should still be working when you close the window.  You can now switch back your monitor setup back to the way you had it and things should still be working as expected.  Let me know if this works for you?

Mike,

Thanks for your continueing efforts to support your great program.  I am experiencing the same problem (have been for months despite trying all suggested fixes)  I only have one monitor, however and cannot use this fix.  (Win XP sp3 Office 2007 SP2 installed and then removed as per a previous suggestion on the forum.)

mike says:

I can confirm that this issue is real.  I've actually managed to reproduce it with both Office 2007 and 2010.  I'm not sure when it started happening, but I'm thinking it was in one of Microsoft's security updates because this used to work flawlessly.   Here's what's happening:

1. ootd creates an instance of outlook to do it's work
2. double click to create/open an item from ootd
3. close the item
4. the outlook instance is prematurely closed when the item was closed even though ootd still holds a reference to it.
5. because outlook is closed, the reference in ootd no longer works until restarted.

Workaround:

Open outlook before opening ootd and keep outlook running.

Rest assured, I am working on this problem and hope to have a solution sometime soon.
