OULOOK.EXE Left Open

Hello,

This is my first post.

When outlook 2003 sp3 is opened with (Outlook on the Desktop) open and then both programs are closed the OUTLOOK.EXE is still left open in the task manager which then needs to be killed in order for any changes to preferences or rules to take effect in Outlook.

Also rules which ran great before installation of (OUTLOOK on the Desktop) are now hit and miss.

They run fine with (Outlook on the Desktop) closed.

Any thoughts?

I appreciate any replies

Regards,

Do you have any addins installed for Outlook?   The addins may be preventing outlook from closing.

Mike,

Thanks for replying, no I don't have any addon's.

I beleive that the .exe is a minor concern now.

With OUTLOOK on the desktop breaking my rules or not allowing them to run correctly, I have been forced to turn off OUTLOOK ON THE DESKTOP until the next update.....

I love this program, it's truly helpful accept for the rules breaking.

hey SaiBot,

Unfortunately, I don't think there is anything I'm able to do on my end to fix that.  I don't do any manipulation with the Outlook objects or data, I only load up an instance of the Outlook View Control and let that do all the dirty work.  So if it's causing a problem, it's likely the View Control which is not behaving correctly, which is not under my control, but Microsoft's.

I also see the remaining process after closing OOTD and OL, and am concerned (but can't prove yet) rules are affected.

However, I have seen that my boss does not receive my mails on his Blackberry when I run OOTD, though he does get them in his OL client.

Cheers,

This same thing started happening to me after I installed IE 8.  I'm not getting any errors, but I would really like Outlook to close when I 'X' out of the program.  Any ideas?  Is there a configuration option someplace that tells Outlook to stay open?

Hi Mike,

While I very much like the idea of Outlook on the Desktop, I run a very clean XP computer.  And normally, it always shuts down when requested.  Since installing OOOD, Outlook.exe freezes on turning off the computer.  XP tries to close it and then I have to manually close it.  I have tried making sure Outlook is closed, attempting to close the right hand tool bar icon (it won't close) and closing OOOD before I turn the computer off.  But something does not close within Outlook when Outlook is closed.

I am still evaluating the situation, love the idea behind OOOD and not sure how long I will allow this to continue.

But I sure like it and I will limp along trying other things to find that sweet spot that allows my computer to close down without a hick-up.

I run the latest XP MS Office 2003 and Norton SystemWorks and JV16Powertools to keep my three XP machines running smoothly.

Mike, thanks for what you are doing.  I hope to see a solution.  But it has to be a daunting task to attempt to load something that will run on everybody's computer - but that's what it has to do.

Wishing you well.
